Light Children, A Graphic Novel
Review by Chris Partin
“Chapter One”
Writer: Andy
Horner
Artist: Kyle T. Webster
I had the
opportunity to read the first chapter of this new graphic novel
created by Andy Horner and Kyle Webster. I'm not entirely sure
how many pages this graphic novel will end up being or exactly when
its coming out, but I know this - I'm getting it!
The novel is
about a group of abandoned children who are begin raised in an orphanage called the Westover Lake Orphanage
which is has been build far from the city of the Light People.
These children have been abandoned by their parents for a variety of
reasons, but the children are never told they are abandoned, but
they were rescued from their parents and a world that didn't see how
special they really are.
Keeping in mind
that I've only read the first chapter, which you can also do by
visiting the website
www.lightchildren.com, but you can
easily get a feel for the writing and the artwork that has gotten me
interested in picking up the entire novel once it has been released.
The writing has very little complexity to it. I think its an
intelligently written story that gives you a good taste of how
clever some of these children can be. I found that part to be
very entertaining.
The artwork is
something that's very different to me and takes me outside of my
normal realm of art styles that I see in the comics I pick up.
There's a hint of Ben Templesmith and Ashley Wood in it, but its not
an aped style. Its very unique, and I enjoy that aspect of the
art. I like seeing new ways of telling stories in the comics I
read and Kyle Webster does a very good job in providing that new
style.
Andy Horner and
Kyle Webster have created what looks to be a very interesting and
entertaining graphic novel. AS I said before, I'm looking
forward to checking out the completed project and I hope to see more
people talking about it in the near future.
